Paralegal The candidate enhances attorney effectiveness by developing case information, evidence, and settlement options; tracking cases; supporting attorney's trial proceedings. Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes. Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, discovery, and notices for review, approval, and settlement documents and use by attorney. Manage calendar/tickler system for timely response to all court deadlines. Investigate facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly.. Review and analyze medical records. Prepare medical summaries and chronologies. Prepare indexes of documents and maintain document/case file including intra and extra. Deliver or direct delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to action. Maintain accurate database regarding all pertinent information on each case. Communicate with courts, outside counsel, clients, experts, and vendors. Prepare case/medical information and forwards to expert witnesses. Conduct document reviews in-house or off-site. Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, depositions and trials. Attend hearings and trials. Manage and enter case information into database. Enter billable/non-billable time into billing system. Abstract depositions, Prepare invoices regarding transcripts and other resources and submit to accounting. Act as law librarian regarding medical articles, keeping and monitoring articles and ensuring same are up to date and current issues available & expert witness material. Maintain database and file on experts used in the litigation by both parties. Prepare 30 day trial evaluations, 120 day trial evaluation and quarterly status reports (monthly) at the direction of attorney or client for review. Close cases upon disposition and keep track of all dispositions on detailed database. Assist attorneys in preparing for presentations and seminars. Other duties may be assigned. Bachelor's degree preferred; Paralegal Certificate preferred. Should have 3 years of significant paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal environment. Must have insurance defense experience as well as experience in reviewing and summarizing medical records, motion practice, and expert witness consultation. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
