Transactional Attorney The candidate provides a broad range of legal support to the General Counsel/Business Manager, as well as other department executives. Give accurate and timely counsel to business areas on a variety of legal topics, including drafting well-reasoned legal opinions. Evaluate and advise on contract status, legal risks and legal liabilities associated with different transactions. Communicate and negotiate with internal and external parties, creating relationships of trust. Communicates directly on behalf of the General Counsel including those of a confidential or sensitive nature. May determine appropriate course of action, referral or response. Works closely with the General Counsel to keep him well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately. May manage a variety of special projects that require limited research. Performs word processing duties including letters, reports, or other correspondence. Utilizes spreadsheet, power point, database or other applications software for tracking, project management, and preparing presentation materials. Maintains confidential and general files, records and other department project or service transactions. The candidate must have Juris Doctor degree and admittance to State Bar of Michigan (or ability for admittance). Should have 3+ years of legal experience. Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing demands for time is required. Project management, record keeping and transaction skills is needed. Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills is must. Proficient in Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel, and Power Point) is essential.
