Paralegal The candidate will work with Firm attorneys, clients and professionals to support a wide range of litigation matters. Provide guidance for case support professionals and organizational support on all assigned Firm matters. Implement case organization and management protocols. Partner with case teams and other colleagues to address client needs. Review Supreme Court and appellate court briefs to ensure compliance with Court rules. Compile motion papers to create a record on appeal/index/appendix. Conduct substantive cite checks on both appellate and Supreme Court filings including a substantive content review. Conduct calendaring and docket legal analysis of pending deadlines including maintaining secondary active and accurate calendars for case teams. Conduct legal research on a broad variety of items. Track Circuit Court decisions across multiple jurisdictions. Prepare concise memoranda summarizing court decisions and legal research. Coordinate appellate filings including appendices & actual filing. Assist in the execution of training materials. Implement post-matter closing instructions including Compliance with litigation holds, compliance with document destruction policies, protective order compliance. Perform other duties as assigned. Communicate effectively, develop and deliver multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences. Ensure accountability, hold self and others accountable to meet commitments. The candidate should preferably have a High School Diploma required, Bachelor's degree. Should have ABA accredited Paralegal Certification (California Business and Professional Code Sect. 6450 compliant) or preferably have another advanced degree such as a J.D. Should have 5 years of experience as an appellate/Supreme Court litigation paralegal in a large firm. High-level project management experience leading a support team is required. Should have knowledge of MS office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Westlaw, Lexis, Relativity, RingCentral, FileSite, timekeeper, or another related billing tool, Case Notebook or comparable software applications. Should have expert organizational skills that support work and case management, expert written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively to direct workflow as appropriate, ability to follow direction and procedures including requests from letterhead attorneys regarding matters and then execute or assign work, strong organizational, reasoning and research skills to independently and effectively conduct research in support of assigned matters, ability to interpret complex and substantive case facts and themes as they relate to assigned work, ability to be flexible and agile in work direction and assignments, expert ability to draft and edit common litigation documents, expert cite-checking skills and the ability to produce accurate and timely cite-check results, ability to be available, as needed, to work extended hours, nights, and weekends, ability to demonstrate good judgment, attention to detail, initiative, team player mentality and team building ability, ability to quickly respond to constantly changing instructions, particularly under pressured situations, and understand complex and substantive case facts and themes to effectively direct work teams, ability to exhibit initiative in seeking work and managing work load, consistently produce high quality work product, regularly check for errors and make corrections as necessary, and take ownership of projects and complete assignments in a timely fashion. Fluency in a foreign language is preferred. Should have to adapt approach and demeanor in real-time to match the shifting demands of different situations. Should be interpersonal savvy and relating openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people. Should have physical qualities like writing, typing, reading, speaking, hearing, seeing, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 lbs.
