Paralegal Duties : The candidate should prepare drafts of legal documents based on templates. Perform legal research for the attorney. Answering telephone calls, when needed. Maintaining the schedule and court calendar for attorney. Coordinate and communicate with clients on matters. Identify deadlines and priorities for upcoming action. Check and edit legal forms and documents for accuracy and organize and track case files. Assist in drafting motions, briefs, or other court documents/forms. File motions in court. Follow-up with clients on upcoming court dates, compliance, and information/document gathering. Track and monitor cases. Provides support to the attorney in many facets of law, procedure, and client contact/follow-up. Communicates with clients daily on their legal issue. The paralegal also collects personal, extremely sensitive information about the charges, background, and the individual. Must be trustworthy and use good judgment when dealing with client-sensitive information. Paralegal routinely follows-up with clients and potential clients about hiring the firm, the status of the client s case, and setting expectations as to the outcome for the matter. Drafts motions and (in rare instances) briefs. Interfaces directly with the Clerk of Court, First Offender Program personnel, and on occasion District Attorneys. Paralegal collects, organizes, files, and summarizes criminal defense information, discovery requests/responses, and conducts case research on the pertinent issues. Paralegal may also conduct case and procedure research, forms and filing, and follow-up with court or government agencies. Requirements : The candidate should possess an Associates degree preferably having a bachelor s degree and paralegal certificate. Must have proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Should have paralegal experience or training. Must be bilingual with fluency in Spanish. Must have experience in Criminal Law. Should have 1-5 years of previous paralegal experience.
