Family Law Paralegal The candidate keeps cases organized by monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney and staff. Assists in development of cases by maintaining contact with individuals involved in the case; scheduling appointments and meetings; preparing and issuing summons and subpoenas; preparing responses to opposing counsel/party, and preparing other legal documents, forms and correspondence as dictated. Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress and acknowledgments. Sending follow up emails to Attorney and Staff regarding all communications and case status. Supports case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediation conferences; preparing pleadings; monitoring and obtaining discovery responses; organizing materials for case review. Examples: Preparing Petitions, Summons, Notice of Limited Scope Representations, Income & Expense Disclosures, Schedule of Assets & Debts, Request for Orders, Responsive Declarations, Production of Documents, etc. * Enhances court/trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing trial briefs and exhibits; preparing court documents, motions and exhibits for filing; scheduling witnesses/clients; ensuring that witnesses/clients are ready when needed; taking courtroom notes. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications and joining local organizations. Updating self and staff with review of local rules. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Maintains client confidence by keeping client/attorney information confidential. Assists in generating revenues by documenting and inputting attorney billable time and expenses. Completing and billing for all tasks efficiently. Effective time management, completing tasks in a timely manner. Providing excellent customer service both in person and via telephone: Referring to the provided script until familiar with how you are expected to speak to consults, clients, attorneys, etc. Going above and beyond with consults and upselling the Attorney. Communicating effectively, orally and in writing. Proofreading and reviewing all work prior to being submitted to Attorney. Assist in maintaining the daily calendar with Staff. Daily or weekly meetings with Staff to discuss tasks and deadlines. Discussion with Staff and working as a team in assigning tasks to each staff to ensure case and/or assignment for Attorney is completed and ready. Be detail oriented and learn the Attorneys preferences and requirements for the day to day routine. Become fully knowledgeable of what the Attorney expects to be completed prior to forwarding work/files/etc.
