A branch office of a regional mid-west law firm, whose clients range from one person, to start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. This is a full service firm that has offices throughout the mid-west. This is a great, contentious firm that dedicates a portion of its lawyers’ billable hours to do pro bono work. This is a nice place to work, and people are quite friendly. The firm hires from both regional and national law schools, and values an attorney’s personality and diversity of experience.
Patent Paralegal The candidate will work closely with attorneys in the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Will provide legal support on a variety of tasks focused on patent prosecution. Collaborate with attorneys to prepare, file, and prosecute new patent applications in the PCT, US and foreign jurisdictions. Generate reports and monitor daily docket of deadlines and ensure that deadlines are met and the system is properly updated. Facilitate ongoing communication with attorneys regarding upcoming filing deadlines. Communicate with internal staff, foreign associates and clients regarding routine or procedural patent prosecution events. Meet 1,250 billable hour requirements and production targets. Assist with patent due diligence projects. Work with the IP team to develop, implement, and maintain docketing processes, procedures and policies for patents, and patent applications. Maintain the integrity of electronic data in accordance with firm policy and procedures. Perform additional projects and administrative tasks as assigned. The candidate should have an Associate's degree or 2+ years of work experience in the field of intellectual property, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Must have at least 1 year of experience in patent prosecution. Should have the ability to learn rules, regulations, and procedures specific to the assigned practice area as well as policies and procedures established by the firm and apply them accordingly. Must be highly proficient in MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Knowledge of Anaqua, Elite and/or iManage (or a similar document management system) is a plus. Should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff.
