Trademark Paralegal The candidate will monitor trademark, common law and domain names for various clients on an on-going basis. Renew and review existing watches with third-party vendors and handle renewal invoices to ensure there are no lapses in coverage. Coordinate with trademark attorneys to handle requests from other attorneys for trademark, patent and copyrights searches to determine ownership and lien history (requests from other practice groups). Prepare assignments to clean-up existing chain of title discrepancies (name changes, assignments granting interest from one party to another). Prepare security interest documents in connection with lending transactions. Obtain Apostille (Members of Hague Convention) and/or legalization of notarized trademark and power of attorney documents and Secretary of State filings for filing in foreign countries. File assignments, releases and grants of security interests. File of Revocation and Appointment of Attorney as requested. Research basic trademark, copyright and patent information and/or assignment history. File opposition documents with the TTAB. Prepare and file copyright applications using eCO Registration System. Assure payment of U.S. patent maintenance fees and annuity fees for foreign patents. Correspond with client and foreign associations in connection with registration, maintenance and enforcement of trademarks. Manage and process all foreign associate invoices. Assist with docketing and follow-up of domestic and international deadlines as necessary. Research domain name registrations using WHOIS and other resources. Research entities, members, officers and/or directors (e.g. Dunn & Bradstreet, People Locator). Order trademark documents (assignments, security interest filings, etc.) using third-party vendor. Perform knock-out trademark searches using ActiveIP or PACER software at request of trademark attorneys. Order full trademark and/or design searches using third-party vendors at request of trademark attorneys. As needed, learn the policy and procedures relating to UDRP. Prepare complaints and handle UDRP filings, as needed. A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association required. A degree from a postsecondary institution with a minimum of 24 units in law-related courses accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization as required by State law required. 2+ years of paralegal experience working in a legal department or law firm/professional services IP environment required. Completion of a four year college degree plus a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney required. Overall knowledge of rules and procedures; understanding of specialized and standard software; familiarity with structure of governmental offices and departments required. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe and specialized document management and preparation software required.
